Observations, reminders and encouragement
Welcome, everyone to the 26th running of the Knee Knacker! With just under 6 weeks to go until race day, I wanted to remind you that we have lots of information on our site and are regularly posting updates to our Facebook page. Based on feedback from our survey last year, many of you would still like to receive email updates, so I’ll send a few key items over the coming weeks, but please do keep an eye on the site and if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to call me at (604) 787-8097 or email me at rd@kneeknacker.com
Training Runs
There has been a great turnout so far for our Sunday training runs. These are a really good way to get to know the trail, make some new running buddies and try out different fuel and gear before race day.
Volunteers
What can I say about our volunteers? They are the best around. Ever. Yes, I’m biased, but really, in addition to the very visible things our 200+ volunteers do, we also have people who work tirelessly behind the scenes to take care of details many people would never even think of! If you have friends or family that want to volunteer, please ask them to sign up using our Volunteer signup form. Spaces are filling up fast!
North Shore Rescue
I am so grateful and proud of our partnership with North Shore Rescue. With the passing of Tim Jones this year, there is a continued sadness for all of us who knew him. However, he would be endlessly proud of the NSR team that continues their amazing work. Wendy, Glenn and I met with Mike Danks and Curtis Jones last week to walk through race day logistics and it reminded me to share with you the level of dedication and commitment to runners’ safety that we take so seriously. I realize we all get requests for donations all the time, but I still encourage you to consider setting up a fundraising page or donating directly to support NSR.
Banquet
Everyone is welcome! We will celebrate the 26th Knee Knacker this year with catering from Tommy’s Catering and our traditional awards for all finishers. In order to ensure we get our hungry runners and volunteers fed with as little waiting as possible, we will open up dinner service when the doors open. If you plan to attend the banquet, please RSVP to Bev at banquetinfo@kneeknacker.com by June 30th.
Volunteer Hours
Remember to send in your volunteer hours. We recognize that many of you already volunteer in many ways – thank you for this. If you have donated or raised funds this year instead of volunteering, there is no need to send in your form – we have already noted your contribution.
Race Weekend Logistics
Race weekend is an exciting time. All of the specifics will be posted on the site and emailed to you in the week before the race. For now, please plan on picking up your packet on Thursday or Friday night (July 10/11), and if you’re a first-timer, please attend the Friday night race briefing.
Happy training, everyone! Now that the sun has come out, it’s perfect training weather for a gorgeous summer day in July! Please keep in touch – I enjoy hearing from you and knowing how your Knee Knacker journey is going.
See you on the trails,
Kelsy Trigg,
Race Director
