Two week countdown
Hello, fellow Knee Knackerers. I hope your training’s gone well and you’re enjoying your taper. I love this time of year as everyone starts to go just a bit squirrelly with extra energy and anticipation. Over the next two weeks, please reach out if you have any questions (604) 787-8097 or rd@kneeknacker.com. We will also continue posting info on our site and Facebook community page.
Volunteers
A continued thank you to our wonderful volunteers. We only have a few spots left for banquet volunteers – if you have family or friends that would like to be a part of the festivities, please encourage them to contact Dennis through our volunteer sign-up form.
North Shore Rescue
As some of you may have seen this week, one of the Search and Rescue caches near Hanes Valley was vandalized and over $15,000 worth of damage was done http://globalnews.ca/video/1417007/north-shore-rescue-cache-vandalized This is hard to understand and very disappointing. Many of you already support North Shore Rescue. Thank you for this. If you would like to make an additional donation, you can do this through our fundraising page.
Banquet RSVP
If you plan on attending the banquet, please make sure you RSVP to Bev McKenna by July 6. It is important that we know if you’re going to attend as it is always a tricky balance to ‘guess’ at numbers for food! Every runner and volunteer gets a banquet ticket and additional tickets can be purchased at packet pickup. Please help us by confirming early. Thank you.
Packet Pickup
There are two options for packet pickup – Thursday or Friday (July 10 or 11) evening from 5:30-7:00pm at Parkgate Community Centre – 3625 Banff Court, North Vancouver. Please bring picture ID and we will give you your (customized this year) wristband, number, banquet ticket, poster, and fancy Icebreaker runners’ shirt. If you are unable to pick up your packet at these times, you can have a friend pick it up for you, however, please send me an email ahead of time with your permission to do so. Please note, if your packet isn’t picked up by Friday at 7:00pm, you will not be in the race.
Race Briefing
Join us for the always informative and sometimes entertaining Race Briefing on Friday, July 11 at 7:00pm. The briefing is mandatory for all first-time runners, and everyone is welcome.
Race Morning Logistics
There are three free shuttles available to take you from the finish line in Deep Cove to the start line. The first bus leaves at 4:45am and the last bus leaves at 5:00am. Prior to race day, please have a look on the site for specifics on parking restrictions – there have been changes since last year and it’s really important that we respect these. Not only are our permits tied to this, we want to keep a good relationship with the residents in Deep Cove who are impacted by the public festivities in the area. Thank you.
Note: the restroom at Panorama Park will be open. This is thanks to the park caretaker, Jose who comes out specifically to do this for us at 4:30am! Take advantage of these facilities prior to getting on the bus as even though we have five porta-potties at the start line, the lineups do get long.
Once you get to the start, there is a required check-in on race morning. All we need for this is to record your number & know that you’re ready to roll. This is important as we take runners’ safety really seriously, and this check-in provides us and North Shore Rescue with the master list of runners on course. We will be streamlining this process this year, so look for two lineups based on your number and we’ll do our best to keep everything moving.
Do keep in touch – I enjoy hearing from you and knowing how your Knee Knacker journey is going.
See you in two weeks!
Kelsy Trigg,
Race Director
