RIP Gottfried Grosser
The Knee Knacker community is saddened by the passing of Gottfried Grosser on Nov. 4. Gottfried has been a member of the Knee Knacker family for over 2 decades, ever since finishing his first race across the North Shore in 2000.
Over the next decade, Gottfried was a fixture in our race. He had 9 finishes to his credit between 2000 and 2011, with his Personal Best of 7:08 coming in 2004.
Gottfried was also a regular participant in the Knee Knacker group training runs, learning to adapt his road running expertise to the rough and rugged North Shore trails. He made a quick transition from mentee to mentor, imparting his knowledge to many new trail runners over the years. You could also count on him for many entertaining stories and anecdotes for any and all who had the pleasure of sharing trail time with him.
There was more to Gottfried than just training and racing on the trails. He volunteered at many events, and ultimately created a couple of his own races – Tenderfoot Boogie and Frosty Mountain. He added many personal touches to his races, like home baked treats, plants and homemade wine. These traditions continued right up until a couple of months ago when he was able to stage the return of the Frosty Mountain Ultra.
There have been so many touching and heartfelt memories shared over the last few days. Gottfried, we will miss you very much. We wish you happy trails as you rejoin Benny, your recently departed canine running companion.
