2019 Race finisher photos from Salvador Miranda (4hr 42m to 10hrs)
“As a volunteer photographer at the finish line, you witness a very wide range of emotions and the way runners express them: joy to the point of jumping, pain while trying to run those last few metres, tears as a result of the sense of accomplishment of something very difficult, concern for stopping their timers and GPS devices, some looking disoriented, many showing an expression of big relief, many of triumph, “I made it!!!”.
As a former finisher I know that we all experience all of those feelings and sentiments combined, “all of the above”, as we say. It’s a complex sentimental bundle as we cross that finish line after such a long and hard day. I still have vivid memories of my last one in 2015: I tried the jump of joy, which resulted in a painful cramp, as my legs had saved the very last bit of fuel to pretend I was running in front of the cheering crowds, and then… and then I burst into tears after realizing that, with a time of 9:42:37 and not getting any younger, that might have well been the last time I crossed that gate.” …Salvador Miranda, 3 times Knee Knacker finisher.
