How to register & registration period
Registration and race fee
The race fee is $175 CAD all-in (including all taxes and fees).
You will initially only be charged a $10 CAD fee to enter the lottery, and if your name is drawn, the remainder of the entry fee ($165 CAD) will be charged at that time.
Age requirement
Though we love seeing youngsters interested, there are some significant considerations here:
- Based on the expert advice we have received, 17 years is the minimum age for ‘regular’ entry.
- 14-16 years can enter but we have strict and specific parental waivers and support that are required.
- No runners under the age of 14 will be accepted.
Race Categories
- Participant categories are Male, Female, and Non-Binary.
- There is also an option on registration of Prefer Not to Specify.
- Placing in top 3 M/F overall, as well as top 3 M/F in age group placings (<40, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+).
- There will be no prizing at this time for “non-binary” or “prefer not to specify”. This policy will be under annual review based on uptake of registrants. Please see Gender Policy for details
- For any questions or concerns, please reach out to Kim Magnus, RD for a conversation.
Volunteer service requirement
To be eligible to compete in the 2025 Knee Knacker, you must – in addition to being selected in the lottery – complete four (4) hours of volunteer service. This is a requirement of all applicants picked in the lottery.
As a volunteer-run organization with deep roots in the community, the intention of this requirement is to encourage our runners to consider ways they can contribute (not specifically Knee Knacker). We recognize that many people already volunteer with plenty of different causes and we thank you for that!
Your volunteer service must follow these rules:
- Is a minimum of four (4) hours total, and can be made of several smaller volunteer sessions if desired;
- Needs to be done between July 01, 2024 and June 30, 2025;
- Can be for any purpose. It does not need to be related to the Knee Knacker or trail running;
- Can be done with any organization or event, or may be performed on your own. Authorization or monitoring is not required.
Some examples of volunteer work are: helping at any race or community event; Meals on Wheels; Big Brothers / Big Sisters; participating at a Rivers Day event; trail work; voluntourism; picking up trash at a beach with your family; building sets at a community theatre.
When you have met this requirement, please fill out the Runner Volunteer Requirements Form to give us the details.
Volunteer exemption: The volunteer service requirement will be waived for any runner who raises $100 or more, using the Knee Knacker Fundraising program, between February 15, 2025, and midnight, June 30, 2025. Please go to the Knee Knacker Fundraising page for more information. We ask that you also fill out the Runner Volunteer Requirements Form once you have met this minimum goal.

Refund policy
Lottery registration for the race is a $10 CAD non-refundable administration fee.
If your name is selected in the lottery, the balance of the registration fee (an additional $165 CAD) will be charged at that time.
Race registration fees are non-refundable.
Participants are welcome to research 3rd party insurance options at their own discretion. Some insurance companies offer sports registration refund insurance. We are not affiliated with any insurers. If you choose to purchase registration refund insurance, you are responsible for all costs, details of coverage and communication with the insurer.
Transfer policy
Entries are not transferable.
Entries may not be carried forward to future years, with the exception of Pregnancy Deferral as outlined below.
Pregnancy Deferral
Anyone who is or becomes pregnant prior to the race may request a pregnancy deferral.
A pregnancy deferral request must be submitted in writing via our contact form to the race director, no later than 5:00 pm the Thursday before race day (package pickup day).
A pregnancy deferral will remove the current year’s entry, and grant entry to one of the next two subsequent events.
To enter a subsequent event, a request must be received in writing via our contact form to the race director prior to or during that event’s lottery registration period.
The entrant must still submit registration via the lottery and will be granted a guaranteed entry spot. If the price of registration has changed since the previous entry, the entrant must pay the difference.
