June 1 training run: she said
I never tire of Deep Cove. Whatever the season, type of weather or time of day, it has a breathtaking beauty to it. So it was this past Sunday morning when I walked from home in Deep Cove to Panorama parking lot. Blue skies, placid waters, and silent side streets made my little walking journey a pleasant one.
We were greeted with eager and friendly faces. Glenn and I quietly–the sane people in Deep Cove were still sleeping–outlined the day’s run and made some important announcements such as our Baden Powell trail maintenance day on June 21. (A great opportunity to get in your community hours, see the details for June 21 in the Training Run page.)
When we arrived at the Cleveland Dam parking lot, we were greeted with another large crowd. I estimated we had over 60 people milling about and ready to go. I love the second half (well, actually Nancy Green Way does play with my head sometimes) as you wind through so many different types of terrain. There were times when I was by myself and then joined some lovely runners with great things to say. It was good to see Ean Jackson out there too! Mind you, he was heading the other way. I wondered what he was up to.
The trails continue to dry up and were in great condition; the muddy patches will be gone before we know it.
We have mentioned how busy Quarry Rock is on the weekends now. This proved to be the case again. Tom summed it up nicely when he said that a smile goes a long way. We all need to share the trails and that trail attracts all ages, all abilities, and friendly four-legged pets. Did I mention that I stopped counting at 200? I wonder what they are thinking when they see us coming.
It was good to see a number of runners relaxing at the finish line. I went into the ocean to cool down. What a great way to finish a long run!
Next week, we meet in the Cove at 7:30 am. We will be running from there to St. George’s Bench and back. We are increasing the mileage and time on our feet. Remember to adjust for this by bringing extra food and fuel.
Wishing you a good week filled with sunny weather and good training. Rest and stay healthy,
Patricia Jensen
