Coast Salish artist Jody Broomfield to create First Nation carvings for Knee Knacker 2019

We are so happy to welcome Jody Broomfield and his team this year to the Knee Knacker Trail Run. They will be designing a number of carvings for our age category winners and 10-year finishers this year! Please read his bio below which highlights his skill and contributions to our community!

Ha7lh Skwayel – Good day, My name is Sinámkin – Jody Broomfield of the Squamish Peoples, Coast Salish. My creative life journey as an artist began in 1999. I pay homage to my mentor/teacher Klatle-Bhi (Cloth-Bay) for apprenticing and helping me become the better person I am today. Through this opportunity, I gained knowledge of our culture and arts, something that I wish to pass on to younger generations, when the time comes.
Mediums that I enjoy working in are carved wood, jewelry, clothing, fabricated metal sculptures and etched glass.
Since, I begun my creative journey in life, I have been very fortunate to have collaborated and commissioned by many established businesses such the Royal Canadian Mint, Tom Lee Music, BC Lions Society for Children With Disabilities, Four Host First Nations and Vancouver Olympic Committee, Lululemon, Simons Department Store, Park Royal Mall, Vancouver Convention Centre, Squamish Lilwat Cultural Centre, West Vancouver Community Centre, City of Port Moody, City of Coquitlam, Vancouver City Hall, Simon Fraser University.
I have proudly been involved with several Public Art Projects for the past 10 years and I am proud 2-time receipt of Public Art Award of Excellence. Charitable work (donated artworks) with Easter Seals House & BC Lions Society for Children with Disabilities. 12 North Sports Classic with Luke Willson of the Seattle Seahawks, helping raise funds for the Special Olympics BC & Youth Football Canada.
I must say, I’m very proud of the decision I made.
