2013 – A few interesting stats
I believe it is safe to say that course and weather conditions for the 25th running of our race this year were much more favourable than those in 2012. Compare the stats/observations below to those I posted for 2012 – http://www.kneeknacker.com/resultsstats/a-few-interesting-stats/:
- 244 starters is a record, beating previous high of 212 in 2012
- 237 finishers is a record, beating previous high of 198 in 2011
- 97.1% finish rate is 3rd highest ever, beaten only by 97.5% in 2004 & 2011
- 114 first-time finishers out of the 237 – almost half of all finishers, which is about par for the course
- 50 Personal Bests – awesome!
- median time was 7:21:45 – fastest since 2001
- Course record in Men’s Masters (40-49) – Mike Murphy, 4:42:32 (previous record 4:42:37 – Kevin Titus, 2003)
- Course record in Women’s Masters (40-49) – Suzanne Evans, 5:40:58 (previous record 5:44:39 – Patricia Jensen, 2004)
- Women’s overall winner Ann Lanari (5:29:13) recorded the 5th fastest time ever for women in the 25 years of the race
- The top 3 men – Gary Robbins (4:41:28), Mike Murphy (4:42:32) and Nick Elson (4:44:07) – recorded 3 of the 5 fastest times ever in 25 years! They are second, third and fifth fastest times, respectively.
Another interesting observation is what Kelsy referred to as the multi-generational aspect of the race. We had a few runners this year who have been influenced by either one, or both, of their parents who are previous Knee Knacker finishers. In fact, for some of them their parents ran in this year’s alongside them as well! Also interesting to note is that some of these runners were not even born yet when the race was conceived in 1989 :). Here then is a list of this “next generation” of Knee Knacker trail runners who completed the 2013 race:
- Alex Currie
- Colin Hope
- Stefan Albrecher
- Warwick Holland
- Jack Cubbon
- Jenica Sorban
- Olivia Brown
- Kyla Adams (10-time finisher!)
