How to register & registration period

In 2022, we will conduct a “mini-lottery”, which is a bit different. Most runners have rolled over their entries from the 2020 race for 2 years now, and have been given an option to exercise their entry for either the 2022 or 2023 races. Once we know how many have selected the 2023 race, we can determine how many additional spots will be available for the 2022 race.

You will be able to submit your entry into the 2022 mini-lottery starting January 16 through to January 31 at

How we got to the “mini-lottery” over the past 2 years:

Online registration for 2020 is now closed. It was open from December 15th 2019 until January 31st 2020 at 11:59 pm PST.
Click here to access the registration website.
Race entries were assigned by live lottery on February 03, 2020 beginning @ 7:00 pm PST.
Final lottery results were posted here by 11:00 pm PST on lottery day.

The 2020 race was canceled on April 3, 2020. Race entrants were given the option to carry over their entry into the 2021 race, and this was exercised by 250 of the 262 entrants. The 250 entrants list for the 2021 race can be found at Lottery – selected runners – Knee Knackering North Shore Trail Run.

As of January 15, 2021, the decision was made to not accept any further entries for the 2021 race.

The 2021 race was canceled on May 3, 2021.

Registration and race fee

The race fee is $140 CAD all-in (including all taxes and fees).
You will initially only be charged a $10 CAD fee to enter the lottery, and if your name is drawn, the remainder of the entry fee ($130 CAD) will be charged at that time.

Volunteer service requirement

To be eligible to compete in the 2022 Knee Knacker, you must – in addition to being selected in the lottery – complete four (4) hours of volunteer service. This is a requirement of all applicants picked in the lottery.
As a volunteer-run organization with deep roots in the community, the intention of this requirement is to encourage our runners to consider ways they can contribute (not specifically Knee Knacker). We recognize that many people already volunteer with plenty of different causes and we thank you for that!

Your volunteer service must follow these rules:

  • Is a minimum of four (4) hours total, and can be made of several smaller volunteer sessions if desired;
  • Needs to be done between July 01, 2021 and June 30, 2022;
  • Can be for any purpose. It does not need to be related to the Knee Knacker or trail running;
  • Can be done with any organization or event, or may be performed on your own. Authorization or monitoring is not required.

Some examples of volunteer work are: helping at any race or community event; Meals on Wheels; Big Brothers / Big Sisters; participating at a Rivers Day event; trail work; voluntourism; picking up trash at a beach with your family; building sets at a community theatre.

When you have met this requirement, please fill out the Runner Volunteer Requirements Form to give us the details.

Volunteer exemption: The volunteer service requirement will be waived for any runner who raises $100 or more, using the Knee Knacker Fundraising program, between February TBD, 2021, and midnight, June 30, 2021. Please go to the Knee Knacker Fundraising page for more information. We ask that you also fill out the Runner Volunteer Requirements Form once you have met this minimum goal.
